Join Date: Jan 2002 Location: NY Experience: Advanced Junk Jouster 31-May-2002, 11:31 PM #8 If you have the install disks for the burner and CD drive, if they came with any, try going into Safe Mode (tap F8 key at bootup)let it boot all the way to desktop, it runs just like ordinary Windows but looks different; Open the plus sign for CDROM, Remove the CD drive first, reboot, let Windows attempt to reinstall it....check when back in Normal mode for the drive in My Computer.... then repeat the uninstall from Safe Mode for burner and check that. you may or may not need disks; Windows may just find the software and reinstall devices, or it may want the location of drivers....from disk or hard drive if you know which folder, point the Hardware Wizard to them. __________________ My Signature links: Donate directly to help the site TSG Library TSG\'s Welcome Guide- Tips, Rules, How to use TSG and more! hackedsmurf\'s Avatar hackedsmurf hackedsmurf is offline Member with 90 posts. I see a lot of similar problems around between burners and CD drives...conflicts that are hard to solve, and a lot of new seemingly dead drives, that were working one minute and not the next. You could keep trying different IDE ports, cables, jumper settings and might get lucky. If the external burner is USB, have you got the best drivers for your USB interface from the motherboard or chipset manufacturer? There is one more important thing- ASPI drivers- see this page: http://www.nu2.nu/aspi/ Use search feature on the forums here to find out a lot more about ASPIcheck it looks technical, but is fairly easy.
