Hey! I had my computer formatted a few days ago and everything was okay. Today, I was copying my private files from my backup CD-ROM when suddenly, \"PUFFF!\", magic! My LG 52X Max CD-ROM drive disappeared and it couldn\'t detect my backup CD-ROM. :S I tried adding new hardware but it simply DOESN\'T DETECT IT. This is craaaaaazy. I mean, does Windows XP ever work properly without giving problems more than two days in a row???? :S Anyways, I was wondering whether any of you guys could help me get Win XP to re-detect my CD-ROM drive (because it still works! The green light is on and the button of \'disc in-disc out\' works perfectly well!). I would like to avoid physically touching my hardware if possible so I\'d appreciate any possible solutions via the Win XP operative system itself and no touching cables, etc. As I say, it all works okay, so I doubt anything is not plugged in properly. It\'s just the darn Win XP not detecting it! Thanks a lot for the help Iyanden Iyanden is offline Reply With Quote AltToday CD Freaks Beitrag __________________ This advertising will not be shown to registered members. Hi and be welcome aboard! If it\'s just WinXP that does not see it anymore, it might be a good idea to delete the IDE channel it\'s attached to in Window\'s control panel (System -> Hardware). Reboot and see what happens (if everything goes well, XP should detect the new IDE channel and all the devices that come along with that). Let us know if it worked __________________ Every answer is just a question away... My other hobby is photography. Come take a look at what I do! Help us fighting cancer! Nah... I wish it was that simple WDA. lol I already tried rebooting the comp several times. :S Something really strange happened today. I came, started my comp and suddenly \'tadaaaa\' my CD-ROM was back in My PC! Then, I began installing a program and, suddenly (like it happened the last time), it gave me an installation error saying it couldn\'t find file so and so. I looked at My PC and \'DOH!\' the CD-ROM drive had gone missing again. The funniest thing out of this is that it re-appeared after I left it nearly for a day to \'rest\'. lol The CD-ROM drive is quite new, like two months old only or less. It hadn\'t given me problems before and suddenly it appears to have become \'sensitive\' to \'excess data transfer\' (if you can call installing a program \'excess data transfer\'). But, wtf, what is a CD-ROM drive but a device to read and transfer data??????? :S After this happened, I tried deleting the IDE channels as Dee-ehn recommended me and nothing happened. Yes, yes... it rebooted and re-installed the IDE channels but it claimed not to have found any new hardware attached to them (.../sigh :\'( ). So... any more brilliant ideas to solve my problem? Because I seriously need them. lol By the way, thanks a lot for your help and your warm welcome guys! I really appreciate it! I hope I\'ll be able to help you out in return some time in the future. Yeah, I\'ve got an external Iomega CD-RW CD-ROM drive. That one works fine. The problem is with the internal one. I guess you took the external drive out of it\'s enclosure and connected it to the IDE channel, right? Is your internal drive perhaps on cable select? If so, try to put it either on master or on slave...! __________________ Every answer is just a question away... My other hobby is photography. Come take a look at what I do! Help us fighting cancer! Uhm... no idea. lol I know about scripting, not hardware I\'m affraid. lol My Iomega CD-RW is connected via usb 2. I don\'t know if you consider that an IDE channel or not (I don\'t think so, maybe I\'m wrong). About the rest of what you\'ve said, I don\'t know how to do it! Please explain in a detailed manner. Thanks. About the USB drive: most (all?) external opticals are normal IDE devices. The case they are built into have convertors to make IDE devices work on a USB channel. In order to test with this device, you should take the Iomega drive out of the enclosure and plug it into the cable that now is attached to the problematic CDROM. About the master/slave jumpering: on the back of your drive there are several pins to set up your drive. The options are slave, master or cable select (that\'s automatic, so if there\'s one master on the channel the device\'ll automatically go to slave etc). If you take out your drive there\'ll most likely some kind of label there explaining how to set the jumpers for a specific operation. Each IDE channel can hold two devices: a master and a slave (so never two slaves or two masters). Cable select can be used, but it is known for giving problems in some cases. If there\'s another device on the channel, be sure to check how it\'s set and make sure you have a proper configuration. __________________ Every answer is just a question away... Does taking the iomega out of its enclosure mean taking it out of its case to see the same \'normal plugs\' that my internal drive has? Because I cannot take it out. The case is like \'fused\' with the CD-ROM drive and I only have a usb entrance and another one for the power. If it\'s impossible, forget about it...! (too bad, but nothing to be done about it). __________________ Every answer is just a question away... My other hobby is photography. I couldn\'t open my Iomega external CD-RW drive but I\'ve been \'doing my homework\' in the meantime about CD-ROM drives. lol I\'ve been reading articles and user\'s manuals about my GCR-8523B CD-ROM drive (AKA LG 52X), etc. and I think I can give you much more precise information about my CD-ROM drive because now I actually know the cables, the plugs and all that \'master/slave/cable select stuff\'. Hmmmmm... I\'m beginning to be really intrigued by this hardware stuff... I had never been into this world and I\'m beginning to find it absolutely fascinating... At the end, this stupid error is gonna serve to get me a new hobby! lol Anyways, back to work... I had my hard drive set to master in the primary IDE channel and my CD-ROM drive plugged into de secondary IDE channel with the master plug but it was set to... SLAVE!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Darn, comp engineers. My CD-ROM drive broke like two months ago and that\'s why I had to change it and those idiots apparently set it on slave on IDE 2. :S That\'s what happens when you dunno about your hardware and you have to let someone do everything for you and PAY THEM. Grrrr... ¬¬ Who was the idiot that said \'ignorance is a bliss...?????\' So, I set my CD-ROM in master and uninstalled the IDE channels again, rebooted and... NOTHING!!! LOL The only thing I can do at this point is laugh... /sigh Well, at least I\'m having fun at the end discovering all this hardware world... Anyway, I hope this new info helps! Well one thing I have to ask is, can the BIOS see the drive? To access the BIOS you usually press delete or F2 when the computer is coming up, like right after you restart it. Tell us what you find out. Gentlemen: I had this problem as well. All had been going fine on my XP Pro machine for over a year and then all of the sudden, the disk drives were gone. They couldn\'t be found in Windows Explorer, didn\'t appear in the folder list, and had little exclamation points in yellow circles on the Device Manager with warnings that the drivers loaded but Windows couldn\'t find the drives. I went to setup in BIOS and, sure enough, BIOS detected them and knew that they were there, but XP just couldn\'t find them. I tried everything from rebooting the machine to deleting the IDE channel and beyond, but to no avail. Then I found the following at http://www.careyholzman/WinXP.htm: Quote: Problem: My DVD-ROM drive disappeared! Also, the little red light on the drive is permanently on and the drawer won\'t open. Possible Solution: This is a well known problem with XP, if you cannot access CDROM, DVD, CDR or CDRW drives or get a Code 31 or 39 error in Device Manager then the solution is to run Regedit and delete Upperfilters and LowerFilters at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Class\\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And then restart the PC I tried it and it worked like a charm. My drives reappeared. Rx Chaos is offline Reply With Quote Ads by Google CD-ROM Driver Download Update Your CDROM Driver Instantly. Free Download. Latest Update.
